Waterproofing FNQ
Since 2005

Over 20 years of tile injection and waterproofing experience across Cairns and Far North Queensland — residential, commercial and industrial.

Who We Are

Built on honest work
and the right fix

A1 Tile Injection & Waterproofing has been operating in Far North Queensland since 2005. In that time we've worked on everything from a single bathroom tile repair through to full commercial waterproofing systems for strata buildings, underground car parks and industrial facilities across the Cairns region and beyond.

The business was built around a simple principle: identify the actual problem, use the correct repair system, and do the work properly. That sounds straightforward — but in an industry where shortcuts are common, diagnosis is often skipped, and the cheapest product gets used regardless of suitability, it's what consistently separates a repair that lasts from one that doesn't.

We specialise in tile injection and waterproofing systems rather than general building work because these areas require specific technical knowledge. Choosing the wrong injection resin, applying a membrane at the wrong thickness, or missing an upstand detail that allows water in at the junction — these are mistakes that don't show up immediately but cost the client significantly when they do.

Over 20 years working in FNQ's specific climate conditions — intense wet seasons, extreme UV, sustained high humidity — means we understand what fails here and why, and how to specify repairs that hold up to these conditions rather than just meeting minimum compliance on paper.

Why FNQ Is Hard on Buildings

Queensland's tropical north creates waterproofing conditions that southern contractors don't always appreciate — and that require different materials, different specifications, and different installation methods than what works in Brisbane or Sydney.

Wet Season Intensity

Far North Queensland's wet season delivers rainfall events that overwhelm poorly designed or aged waterproofing systems. Annual averages in Cairns exceed 2,000mm — much of it falling in concentrated downpours over a 4-month window. A membrane that performs adequately in Brisbane may fail here within a few seasons.

UV Degradation

UV intensity in Far North Queensland is among the highest in Australia. Silicone sealants, grout, membrane coatings and adhesive products all degrade faster under sustained high-UV exposure than the manufacturer's rated service life assumes. External products need to be specifically rated for tropical UV conditions — and installed correctly to achieve that rating.

Sustained High Humidity

Humidity levels that remain high year-round — not just during the wet — accelerate the breakdown of adhesive bonds in tile installations, encourage mould growth in grout and silicone, and allow moisture to infiltrate through micro-cracks in grout lines that would be less of a risk in drier climates. Older tile installations across FNQ are particularly vulnerable.

Our Approach

How We Think About the Work

Diagnose the cause, not the symptom

A drummy tile is a symptom. The cause might be adhesive failure, a waterproofing membrane leak, structural movement, spot bonding during the original installation, or moisture from a plumbing source. Injection that symptom without addressing the cause means the tile goes drummy again. We find the cause first. Every time.

Right system for the situation

We use polyurethane where polyurethane is correct, epoxy where epoxy is correct, liquid membrane where liquid membrane is correct. We don't have a preferred product that we try to use on every job — we have a range of systems and we select based on the substrate, the failure mode, the environmental exposure and the client's budget.

Minimal disruption by design

Injection techniques exist precisely because demolition is expensive and disruptive. We design every job around minimising impact on your home, your tenants or your business. If a job can be done in sections, done overnight, or done around fixed schedules — we'll plan it that way from the start.

We stand behind what we do

We've been working in the same region for over 20 years. Our business runs on referrals and repeat clients — which only happens when the work holds up. If a repair we've done fails through our fault, we come back and fix it. That's not a marketing statement. It's how we've operated since 2005.
